The market Lagos is boasting of is dependent on the larger part of the country. Benin Republic has a port, Togo has a port; do they have the population to back up the ports? Without us providing the demand part, what will be Lagos?” Mr Masari said. “VAT serves them and us. We provide the bulk of the market because without the rest of the states what is Lagos or Port Harcourt?” Mr Masari said. According to him, “Any state that thinks it can survive in isolation is joking. We provide the demand that makes Lagos what it is.” Mr Masari did not speak on how northern states benefit from alcohol taxes generated from southern states while Sharia-bac...

Image
The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said governors are afraid of signing death warrants of convicts because they would not want to order the execution and later find out that the person did not deserve to die. Governors in the country have been criticised for being reluctant to signing death warrants of convicts that have exhausted their legal options, a move that has been identified as contributing to the congestion in correctional facilities across the country. But responding to a question in an interview with Trust TV, Governor Ganduje said they were wary of quickly signing the death warrants because the judicial process is “suspicious.” He recalled an incident involving a former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, saying, “At one time he signed the warrant and somebody was executed judiciously. Later on, it was discovered that he was not supposed to have been executed. The judgement was faulty.” He added that following that incident, governors b...

Opinion on war against bandits, Terrorists---By Garba

Image
No matter the kinetic approach deployed by Govt, even if they shutdown everything in addition to telecoms services; using bombs and guns is always a temporary solution. In fact, it may help escalate the situation beyond expectations as opposed to quenching it. We constantly failed to learn from history in Africa. The worst option from any country is to seek to confront insurgency within its borders with kinetic approach, when in actual facts, the issues keeps recurring due to lack of justice in addition to some politicians failure to lower their guards and deeply get involved in addressing the root causes of the problems bewildering the remote communities. Govt must make conscious effort to mainstream the local communities into the solution to the problem, integrate the local native authorities, connect their leaders to the chain of solutions to the problems. What happened to our masu anguwa? Dagatai, hakimai , masu jimilla? Sarakuna? Etc, what happened to their traditional...

The party leaders in PDP appealed to the former president not to dump the party for the APC ahead of the 2023 general elections. The South is demanding for power shift to the region at the end of Presid...
